Colliding Spherically Symmetric Null Dust in Equilibrium

چکیده
Null dust is a model for the incoherent superposition of waves with random polarizations and phases, moving in a single direction with the speed of light. It also describes the high frequency (geometrical optics) approximation for any type (including gravitational) radiation. Null dust is characterized by the energy-momentum tensor T ab = ρll. Neither the energy density ρ nor the null vector l are uniquely determined and the former can be absorbed in the latter by an appropriate rescaling. Various exact solutions of the Einstein equations in the presence of null dust are known , but certainly the most famous of them is Vaidya’s shining star solution . The energy-momentum tensor describing the collision of two streams of null dust (with propagation vectors k and l pointing in opposite spatial directions) is a sum of the two single null dust energy-momentum terms:

Canonical Analysis of Radiating Atmospheres of Stars in Equilibrium
The spherically symmetric, static spacetime generated by a cross-flow of non-interacting null dust streams can be conveniently interpreted as the radiation atmosphere of a star, which also receives exterior radiation. Formally, such a superposition of sources is equivalent to an anisotropic fluid. Therefore, there is a preferred time function in the system, defined by this reference fluid. This...

In this work, the gravitational collapse of a spherically symmetric null shell with the flat interior and a charged Vaidya exterior spacetimes is studied. There is no gravitational impulsive wave present on the null hypersurface which is shear-free and contracting. It follows that there is a critical radius at which the shell bounces and starts expanding.
متن کاملNon-symmetric trapped surfaces in the Schwarzschild and Vaidya spacetimes
Marginally trapped surfaces (MTSs) are commonly used in numerical relativity to locate black holes. For dynamical black holes, it is not known generally if this procedure is sufficiently reliable. Even for Schwarzschild black holes, Wald and Iyer constructed foliations which come arbitrarily close to the singularity but do not contain any MTSs. In this paper, we review the Wald–Iyer constructio...
متن کاملGravitational Collapse in Higher Dimension
Spherically symmetric inhomogeneous dust collapse has been studied in higher dimensional spacetime and appearance of naked singularity has been analyzed both for non-marginal and marginally bound cases. It has been shown that naked singularity is possible for any arbitrary dimension in non-marginally bound case. For marginally bound case we have examined the radial null geodesics from the singu...
متن کاملSpherically symmetric empty space and its dual in general relativity
(to appear in Current Science) In the spirit of the Newtonian theory, we characterize spherically symmetric empty space in general relativity in terms of energy density measured by a static observer and convergence density experienced by null and timelike congruences. It turns out that space surrounding a static particle is entirely specified by vanishing of energy and null convergence density....
